I really want to get into The Flash and Green Lantern but I really don’t know what to start reading. I’ve read them in other series (Batman, Justice League and the Brave and the Bold come to mind) but I want to get to know them more in their own books.
Any recommendations for a first-time reader? I usually like reading origin stories first but any good story that can stand alone without requiring me to do much background research would be great too!
Before, the only DC I knew was out of the Justice League show. But I started reading the comics from the Blackest Night storyline and that just threw me into other books. Now I’m quite obsessed.
So my suggestion for you is to read the Blackest Night books, its prequels, and the books following it for exceptional Hal Jordan/ Green Lantern comics. And for Flash, anything that Geoff Johns has written is an excellent way into the character. Flashpoint is a nice twist (the movie is good too). Also, the new 52 is good if you don’t mind that Iris and him are not married. The plus side is that the art is just gorgeous, courtesy of Francis Manapul.
Hope this helps!
That awkward moment when you still kinda have lingering feelings for barry x felicity. But you’re like NO. Olicity is it! and its all I’ve ever known.
Barryxfelicity is cute and all. And so is Olicity.
But what about Slade and Felicity? ;D
That’s just gold.
Okay but did anybody else notice that Dinah said she’d be going back to Central City?
As in…the city that The Flash will be taking place?
idk about you guys, but I am HELLA game for Alex Kingston being a major asset character for Grant’s Barry because FUCK YES
Yes! I agree! What I really want is for her to be friends with Jay Garrick, Max Mercury, and Johnny Chambers. She introduces them to Barry and they become his mentors.
Jay is the kind mentor, super supportive and constantly trying to make sure that Barry’s confidence doesn’t get diminished and that it gets built up.
Johnny is the very analytic mentor. Always gives Barry advice in terms of numbers and equations. And when Barry asks him how he did, Johnny gives him a very objective number or reflection.
Max is the douche mentor. He’s a jerk (it’s how he shows his love) and always very blunt with Barry. Although he can be really mean to Barry, no one else can. So when another detective insults Barry in Max’s presence, Max takes the bitch down.
And Dinah, the only one who never was a speedster, keeps telling these three that he’s just starting out and does’t have the experience that they have and that they need to slow down with him. She can take the Ma Hunkel/ mothering role to the younger hero.
(And with Johnny, they can introduce his daughter, Jesse, who can be best friends with Wally West. Before and after they both get powers, their shenanigans keep Barry and the other on their toes.)
I guess I just really wanted them to do something with the JSA because they have such golden opportunity for it since they already brought Dinah Drake into the show and the Black Canary name. (How did Sara come up with it at the top of her head? Wouldn’t it be awesome if she had heard stories of Black Canary almost like a legend and always dreamed of being a hero like that or something along those lines…
No matter where you are from, when you see an athlete injured and having to withdraw in front of his country your heart goes out to them.
